A host of Aquilegia.

It has been a very slow start to summer, but at last the garden is once again full of colour, although so far there are only two roses in bloom, I have never known them so late.

There's even a couple of double petal ones.

Astrantia is just coming into bloom.

The snowball bush has bloomed for the first time.

Alliums stand tall.

After being set back so many times by frost, at last the Arum lily has flowered.

Clematis, at last.

Can someone name this for me please?

    1. I love Aquilegia they are one of the first flowers of summer to flower, they cross pollinate very easily so you are never sure what colour new plants will be, it's all part of the fun!

  3. You've got such a lovely collection of aquilegias, so many different colours. I've just bought a yellow one and it's blooming away since I planted it. I'm afraid I don't know the plant in your last photo so I can't help there.

    1. See the reply from Helen, plant is now named! Dodecatheon or shooting star, it has spread quite a bit since I first planted it. I love Aquilegias, apart from the two doubles I started with just three colours, blue, blue and white, and a yellow one, all the different colours that you see is the work of nature or a little help from me with cross pollinating, it's fascinating to see what colours arrive!

  4. I believe your mystery flower is a Dodecatheon, most commonly called "Shooting Star". There are about 14 species, mostly native to western North America. Several species are cultivated, often in rock gardens.

    2. Thanks for that Helen, I was given the plant by a friend a couple of years ago but lost the label, it likes where I have planted it as it has spread very well.
